‘Growth Mindset’ — Can it be achieved by developing entrepreneurial skills in children?
What we learn in school is rarely, if never applied in our real lives! The reason is simple — The world that we live in today is always changing and at a fast-pace which is why it is imperative that children today, need to learn the art of evolving their mindset.
According to American Psychologist and Stanford Professor Carol Dweck, there are two types of mindsets that shape our lives — fixed and growth. The fixed mindset is a tendency of people to believe that their innate qualities cannot be developed further whereas the growth mindset is the ability to believe that intelligence and skills can be enhanced by learning.
Though a fixed mindset can be changed into a growth mind-set for anyone, it is often easier to mold the tender minds of children so that they develop the skills to overcome hurdles and create their envisioned future. The key to developing ‘Growth Mindset’ is learning to be malleable and one of the ways to do so is by developing entrepreneurship skills in children.
Entrepreneurship skills help children to develop various qualities that can help them not only in building a company or an idea but in various aspects of their lives. Some of these are listed below:
· They develop the idea of being resilient!
· They learn to embrace innovation and creativity.
· They are not afraid of being industrious.
· They learn networking skills.
· They learn how to make effective decisions in hiring new staff and managing their team.
· They believe in sharing the knowledge which is a very important quality for training the new staff.
Many schools have developed their curriculum to be advanced and provide an array of courses however; there is a requirement of systemized education to support the development of tactical skills in children.
Entrepreneurship skills can help them to set aside the notion that growth is limited or cannot be achieved. Through these skills, they learn that ‘giving up’ is not an option because persistence is the key to moving ahead and harsh is only a temporary reality.
